The IPAC BC CIC® Support Group was founded in June 2014 by Janie Nichols and volunteers from the IPAC BC membership. Instrumental in this group is Nicki Gill who shared her knowledge and experience of supporting members from her region in becoming certified in infection prevention and control (CIC®).
The support group identified CIC® mentors from within the IPAC BC membership and developed PowerPoint presentations highlighting key themes and related practice questions for each chapter of the APIC study guide. Presentations were offered by Lync/skype meetings. These sessions offered an opportunity for IPAC BC members preparing for CIC® from across our large and diverse region to come together in discussion and to share resources.
Resources and materials developed are placed on the IPAC BC webpages and have been shared with other IPAC Canada Chapters.
Kelsi Laporte became the IPAC BC CIC® support group lead in 2015, recruiting even more experienced CIC® support team members. Kelsi polled the IPAC BC members to ascertain what barriers our members face to becoming certified and to ask what IPAC BC could offer to support them through this process. IPAC BC continues to work towards innovative solutions to help promote this certification among its membership.
IPAC BC won the CIC® Chapter Achievement Award in 2016; this is awarded annually to the IPAC Canada chapter with the largest increase of eligible members who are newly certified. In 2015, there were 12 members who became CICs! Click here or on the image below to visit the IPAC British Columbia Chapter website.
