IPU Provider Approval Request Process 

Update - October 23, 2026: IPU Provider Approval Request Process: Discontinuation Notice

CBIC is discontinuing the IPU Provider Approval Request Form and the CBIC IPU provider seal. The seal was always optional and was never required for an activity to qualify for IPUs. IPU eligibility comes from meeting CBIC’s published criteria, which apply the same way whether or not an organization sought the seal.
This change does not affect any organization’s ability to offer educational activities that qualify for IPUs. Certificants will continue to claim IPUs for eligible activities by submitting documentation, such as a certificate of attendance or completion, in their IPU portfolios.

Key dates

• December 31, 2026: Final date to submit an IPU Provider Approval Request. Requests will be considered only for activities taking place on or before March 31, 2027.
• January 1, 2027: The IPU Provider Approval Request Form is discontinued, and no new requests will be accepted.
• April 1, 2027: All use of the CBIC IPU provider seal ends. No new materials with the seal may be produced or distributed on or after this date. Digital materials such as websites and course listings must be updated by then. Materials distributed before this date do not need to be retracted.

Promoting your activities
Organizations are encouraged to keep promoting their educational activities to infection prevention and control professionals. Beginning April 1, 2027, do not use the CBIC IPU provider seal or state or imply that CBIC has approved, reviewed, or endorsed your activity. You may use this suggested statement: “CBIC®-certified participants may be able to claim IPUs for this activity if it meets CBIC’s published IPU criteria.”

Documenting participation
Provide each participant with a certificate of attendance or completion that includes the participant’s name, your organization’s name, the activity title, the date(s) of the activity, and the number of IPUs earned or hours for the activity.

Submit a request (available through December 31, 2026)

Providers may submit the Infection Prevention Unit (IPU) Approval Request Form for activities taking place on or before March 31, 2027. Submitted requests are reviewed, and follow-up communication is sent within 30 business days. APIC Chapters do not need to complete this form for infection prevention and control related chapter activity, such as single or multi-day conferences and webinars. This is not a form to upload or submit your personal IPU portfolio. Questions may be directed to info@cbic.org.
