1. Tell us about your experience putting together your portfolio for the AL-CIP?

In preparing my portfolio for the AL-CIP, I first revisited my past work materials and organised them in a chronological order. I then matched each piece of work to the AL-CIP competency framework and allocated them to the most suitable competency areas. I focused on ensuring that everything met the assessment criteria and aligned with the competency principles. I highlighted key contributions, outcomes, and impact, while removing less relevant details to keep the writing concise and clear. I also ensured that each entry included the rationale behind my actions, supported by relevant data and information. The process required careful review and refinement to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with the assessment requirements.

2. Can you provide tips for writing a successful rationale?

A successful rationale should be clear, concise, and directly address the assessment criteria. It is important to explain the reasoning behind your actions—why decisions were made, how they align with relevant principles, and what impact they had. Structuring the rationale logically and reviewing it carefully will ensure clarity and coherence.

3. What advice would you give to someone considering the AL-CIP?

If you don’t have a strong reason not to do it, just do it. It takes some effort, but it’s manageable—and you might realise you’ve achieved more than you thought.

4. What does earning your AL-CIP mean to you?

Earning my AL-CIP represents advanced expertise in infection prevention and control, along with key leadership recognition. It affirms my professional growth and commitment to the field, and connects me to a global community of IPC leaders at an advanced level, broadening my perspective and vision. It also reminds me to focus more on strategic thinking and direction-setting, allowing me to see the bigger picture and contribute more meaningfully.

At the same time, I reflected on how many people have held my hand along the journey. I am deeply appreciative and grateful to those who guided and supported me throughout. This experience has reinforced that all achievements are built on both teamwork and meaningful mentorship.

Overall, earning the AL-CIP has strengthened my confidence, shifted my focus from external recognition to meaningful contribution, and motivated me to support and develop others in the field.
