1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?

I chose infection prevention and control because I wanted to make a direct impact on patient safety and healthcare quality. I enjoy combining science, education, leadership, and problem-solving to protect patients, healthcare workers, and the community. Working in Lebanon has shown me the importance of adaptability and resilience in healthcare, especially during periods of public health, economic, and operational challenges.

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

Stay curious, keep learning, and develop strong communication skills. Infection prevention is a continuously evolving field that requires teamwork, critical thinking, and a passion for patient safety. Beyond technical knowledge, the ability to influence change and build partnerships across disciplines is essential for success.

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

Being CIC® certified represents commitment, professional growth, and dedication to excellence in infection prevention and control. It is an internationally recognized credential that reflects years of experience, study, and continuous learning. As one of the CIC-certified professionals in Lebanon, I view this achievement as both a personal milestone and a responsibility to support the advancement of the profession in my country.

4. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

The APIC Study Guide, repeated mock examinations, and consistent daily study were extremely valuable. The discussions, mentorship, and support within the CIC Academy also played a major role in strengthening my understanding and confidence. Most importantly, I focused on understanding the concepts and their practical application rather than memorizing information.

5. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

Be consistent and do not get discouraged. Prepare a realistic study plan, practice with mock examinations, and focus on understanding the principles behind infection prevention practices. Believe in yourself and seek support from colleagues and study groups. The journey requires commitment, but the professional and personal rewards are well worth the effort.

6. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

I stay updated through APIC resources, CDC and WHO guidance, scientific literature, webinars, conferences, and continuous professional discussions with colleagues and experts. I also actively participate in professional networks with infection prevention and control professionals across Lebanon, which provides valuable opportunities to exchange experiences, lessons learned, and best practices.

7. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?

The CIC® has strengthened my professional credibility, increased my confidence, and expanded my knowledge across multiple areas of infection prevention and control. It has also inspired me to continue learning, mentoring others, and contributing to the advancement of the profession. I hope to use this knowledge to support healthcare organizations in Lebanon and help strengthen infection prevention practices across both the private and public healthcare sectors.
