1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control? 

 I chose a career in Infection Prevention and Control because I it was my dear since almost 3 years ago to make a meaningful difference in healthcare for patients, visitors and healthcare workers. IPC allowed and opened me horizons to combine what I gained in both under-graduate and postgraduate -science, leadership, and patient advocacy to prevent harm before it occurs. 

 

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

My advices to my colleagues who are interested in field of IPC are to build a strong foundation in Statistics, leadership, Education, microbiology, and epidemiology. While also developing strong communication and collaboration skills as an IPC is multidisciplinary, and to achieve the required success in this field depends on working effectively with all healthcare teams. 

 

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

Being a CIC® put me into various   commitments including patient safety, saving facility resources, scientific research.

 

4. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

My most effective study method was completely focused on APIC TEXT plus other sources then I organized all the necessary materials according to the CBIC content outline, and practicing such sources daily and consistently. I completely focused on understanding concepts rather than memorizing them and created summaries for the topics that it seems difficult for me at the times of reading.

 

5. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

It very important to understand the exam domains very well and allow yourself to have an enough time to study by using and focusing on reliable sources like APIC TEXT, practice questions either alone or with your friends. Connecting with study groups or mentors quite important. Well preparation is a secrete behind any success.

 

6. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

For me I stay updated through reviewing CDC, WHO, APIC, and MOH guidelines, in addition to attending professional conferences and webinars, plus engaging with IPC networks. I regularly integrate new evidence into policies, surveillance, and staff education.

 

7. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?

The CIC® has not only strengthened my professional credibility but also opened a new horizons & opportunities for leadership and strategic contributions.
