1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control? 

I chose the infection prevention and control career due to its vital role in safeguarding patients and healthcare professionals. This field allows me to make a direct impact on patient safety while protecting healthcare teams. I have found this work to be my true vocation, and continuous learning further strengthens my commitment to excellence in infection prevention.

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

My advice is to build a strong foundation in the field, seek practical experience, network with professionals, stay updated, pursue certification, develop excellent communication and analytical skills, and foster a genuine passion for infection prevention.
 

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

Achieving the CIC® designation represents a significant milestone in both my personal and professional journey. It is a testament to my unwavering dedication to infection prevention and my commitment to maintaining the highest standards within the healthcare sector. This credential equips me with the necessary tools to lead with confidence, make well-informed decisions, and continuously enhance patient safety.
 

5. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

The most effective approach to prepare for the initial certification exam was to utilize the APIC textbook in conjunction with question-based training. The APIC textbook provided a comprehensive and detailed foundation of knowledge, while question-based training reinforced my understanding and application of essential concepts. This effective combination not only deepened my interest in infection prevention and control but also made the study process both enlightening and rewarding.

6. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

For those pursuing certification, start early with a structured study plan and use up-to-date, credible resources. Focus on understanding core concepts, practice consistently, and participate in study groups. Stay organized, seek guidance when needed, and maintain a healthy balance between study and personal well-being to ensure sustained focus and success.

7. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

I maintain up-to-date knowledge in infection prevention and control by regularly reviewing current guidelines, studying evidence-based literature, and participating in professional conferences. Additionally, I actively contribute to training programs that support colleagues in preparing for the CIC® exam. Through coaching and mentoring, I not only share my expertise but also reinforce and expand my own understanding. This engagement ensures that I remain current with emerging trends, best practices, and evolving standards in the field.
 

8. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?

The CIC® certification has significantly contributed to my professional growth by enhancing my expertise in infection prevention and strengthening my confidence in decision-making. It has opened opportunities for career advancement, enabled me to lead with credibility, and equipped me to educate and mentor colleagues. I currently co-lead the Oman Preparatory Course for the CIC® exam with my colleagues, supporting Infection Preventionists in their certification journey, and take pride in the many participants who have successfully achieved CIC®. I remain committed to fostering the professional development of others in the field.
