Title: Infection Control Manager

1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?

I chose a career in infection prevention and control because I believe it is the heart of patient safety. Preventing infections not only saves lives but also improves healthcare outcomes and reduces costs. My work at Cleopatra Hospitals Group has given me the opportunity to apply evidence-based infection prevention strategies in real clinical settings, directly benefiting patients, healthcare workers, and the community. One of my proudest achievements was preparing SKY Hospital, the largest hospital in the Cleopatra Group, to meet the latest international standards in infection prevention and patient safety. Being able to see the real impact of my work on people’s lives inspires me every day.

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

Stay passionate and patient. In my work as an Infection Control Manager at Cairo Specialized, Alkatib, and now Sky Hospital in the Cleopatra Hospitals Group, I’ve learned that success is about both science and people. Knowledge is important, but teamwork and communication make the real difference.

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

Being CIC® certified represents global recognition of my expertise and commitment to excellence in infection prevention and control. It proves that I have met the highest standards in this field and motivates me to continue learning, leading, and mentoring others. The certification gave me the credibility and confidence to implement evidence-based infection prevention programs across Cleopatra Hospitals Group, including initiatives like ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) prevention bundles and preparing SKY Hospital to operate at world-class standards of patient safety.

5. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

I created a study plan, divided topics into smaller sections, and practiced questions regularly. Linking what I studied to my daily hospital work made it easier to understand and remember.

6. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

My advice is to trust the journey and stay consistent in your preparation. Rely on reputable resources like APIC Text, and never underestimate the value of mentorship and collaboration. Certification is not just a credential; it is a gateway to becoming a stronger advocate for patient safety and infection prevention worldwide. Most importantly, once you achieve certification, use your knowledge to drive meaningful change in your organization and community, just as I was able to do in preparing SKY Hospital to meet the highest international standards.

7. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

I follow updates from CDC, WHO, APIC, and SHEA, and I attend webinars when possible. Most importantly, I apply new guidelines in my daily work across different hospitals, which keeps me current and practical.

8. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?

The CIC® gave me credibility and confidence to lead infection control programs. It supported my growth from daily practice in Cairo Specialized and Alkatib to building infection control excellence at Sky Hospital within the Cleopatra Hospitals Group.

Infection prevention is not just my job—it’s my passion, and it gives me purpose every day.
