1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?
During my Master’s studies, I was introduced to the field of infection prevention and control (IPC) in depth. I discovered how simple, evidence-based practices can protect entire communities from infectious threats. One of my professors always said that an infection preventionist should act like a detective at a crime scene—observing details, identifying risks, and investigating potential threats with precision. This perspective inspired me and made me realize how vital IPC is, especially in countries with fragile health systems and frequent outbreaks
2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?
This career requires dedication, critical thinking, and continuous learning. I encourage anyone interested to explore the field with curiosity and persistence. It is not only a profession but a responsibility toward protecting patients, healthcare workers, and communities. One must be willing to develop both technical knowledge and strong communication skills, because IPC is about leading change and influencing safe practices.
3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?
Becoming CIC® certified is truly a dream come true and the fruit of my hard work. It validates my commitment to infection prevention and strengthens my role in contributing to safer healthcare systems. For me, it represents credibility, accountability, and the ability to create a meaningful impact in both my community and beyond.
5. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?
Preparation was a rewarding journey. I approached it as a lifestyle rather than a task. I studied from official and reliable resources, read books, reviewed guidelines, solved practice questions critically, and stayed updated through platforms like LinkedIn and YouTube. I also combined reading on paper with learning through digital tools, which kept the process engaging and dynamic.
6. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?
Rely on accredited resources and always stay informed about the latest developments in the field. Diversify your study methods, practice critical thinking when answering questions, and never limit yourself to a single source. Most importantly, enjoy the journey—because preparing for the exam itself equips you with valuable professional and life skills.
7. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?
I keep myself updated by regularly reviewing international guidelines, following trusted IPC organizations, and participating in webinars, conferences, and online learning platforms.
Networking with professionals in the field also helps me exchange ideas and learn from real-world experiences.
8. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?
Earning the CIC® certification has sharpened my problem-solving, risk assessment, and decision-making skills. It has enhanced my ability to communicate effectively and influence safe practices. Professionally, it has strengthened my credibility and opened new opportunities for leadership and contribution in IPC.
