1. What made you want to pursue a career in infection prevention and control?
I was drawn to IPC after seeing firsthand how quickly infections can impact vulnerable residents in long term care. I realized that strong IPC practices aren’t just clinical tasks, they’re essential to resident safety. That experience motivated me to deepen my expertise and support LTC homes provincially in Nova Scotia.
2. What does being a-IPCTM mean to you?
To me, it means being a trusted resource for LTC teams to help them strengthen system wide IPC capacity in their LTC facilities.
3. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the examination?
My most effective approach was consistent review of the content outline for the exam. I used practice questions, and short daily study blocks to reinforce key concepts without feeling overwhelmed.
4. How has gaining the a-IPCTM credential impacted your career development?
The credential strengthened my credibility as a provincial consultant and expanded my ability to support LTC homes with confidence.
5. Do you intend on pursing your CIC® credential? If so, why is becoming certified important to you?
I plan on pursuing the LTC-CIC® credential because certification reflects advanced competency and a commitment to excellence in IPC. It’s important to me to model professional growth and support LTC with the highest level of expertise.
