1. Tell us about your experience putting together your portfolio for the AL-CIP?
When I first reviewed the AL-CIP portfolio requirements, I did not fully understand all aspects. To gain clarity, I carefully reviewed the materials several times and attended multiple information sessions. This process helped me identify and prioritize portfolio items based on measurable and quantifiable outcomes. Ultimately, the experience was highly rewarding, allowing me to reflect on my professional growth and recognize the tangible impact of my work in infection prevention and control.
2. Can you provide tips for writing a successful rationale?
Once you have thoroughly reviewed each domain and gained a clear understanding of its scope and intent, proceed to develop examples that meaningfully correspond to each domain’s criteria. You may present multiple examples if more than one suitable illustration is available. For each domain, systematically present and evaluate your examples against its defining characteristics, and ultimately select the one that most effectively aligns with the domain’s requirements.
3. What advice would you give to someone considering the AL-CIP?
My advice is to take your time when reviewing the competency domains. Read through each one carefully, reflect on the examples provided, and think about how they connect to your own experiences, work, and achievements. As you engage with each domain, consider how it aligns with your areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Identify specific moments in your professional or learning journey that illustrate these competencies in practice, as doing so will deepen your understanding and make the reflection process more meaningful.
4. What does earning your AL-CIP mean to you?
Earning the AL-CIP certification was a truly rewarding experience. It gave me the opportunity to reflect on the passion I carry every day for infection prevention and patient safety, and to recognize the meaningful contributions and achievements I’ve been part of throughout my career. Going through the process allowed me to see how my dedication and leadership have made a difference, not only in outcomes but also in inspiring others to uphold the same high standards.
