IPU Provider Approval Request ProcessNEW!

Are you hosting or sponsoring a continuing education offering that is eligible for infection prevention units (IPUs)? The Certification of Infection Control and Epidemiolgy's (CBIC) IPU Committee is now reviewing and considering educational offerings for approval of IPUs. Through a peer review process, the IPU Committee evaluates the relevance of educational offerings that are of benefit to CBIC certificants.

These offerings need to meet the requirements as outlined in the IPU Manual. The offering should be a purely scientific session, with no promotion(s), product(s), or service(s) mentioned or discussed prior to, during, or after the session.

Interested providers, please complete and submit CBIC’s Infection Prevention Unit (IPU) Approval Request Form for your offering to be considered. CBIC staff will review applications upon receipt. If the application is incomplete, applicants will be notified about the deficiencies that must be corrected before the application will be considered for further review. Submitted applications are reviewed and follow up communication sent within 7-10 business days.

Approved providers will receive a letter from CBIC along with the CBIC IPU provider seal. The approval letter will include guidance on how the seal can be applied, the IPU provider seal is not the equivalent to accreditation or applicable to other offerings from the same organization without preapproval. Please note: CBIC is not an accrediting body and approval is only awarded for the applied activity and is only valid towards IPUs and not any other forms of continuing education (ex: CME/CNE/CEU). The letter will also confirm the number of IPUs and the category approved for the applied offering.
