The Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of APIC (APIC DFW) is committed to helping our members obtain certification through our Professional Advancement Committee (PAC). The PAC offers a monthly study group to assist members who are preparing to take the CIC® exam by providing study materials, exam-taking tips, and other related assistance, including moral support and camaraderie. This year we have added a webinar based option for individuals who are not able to be physically present. We average about twenty participants per month between in person and web attendees. Thus far in 2016, we have four new APIC DFW CICs who are “graduates” of our PAC course, with many more planning to sit for the exam later this year. The PAC is in the process of re-writing the course this year so that it matches the new CIC® exam and APIC CIC® review formats.
The PAC also provides recognition for newly certified IPs in our chapter as well as recognizing each recertification. Our co-chairs, Mary Fulton, RN, BSN, CIC and Thi Dang, MPH, CHES, CIC, work very hard to ensure that the PAC is successful. They believe strongly in the value of certification and are committed to help as many APIC DFW members become certified as they can. Mary and Thi have varied and complementary backgrounds. Mary has twenty years of clinical experience prior to entering IP, and has IP and Employee Health experience in a variety of settings. Mary has maintained her CIC® since 2001. Thi is a Master’s prepared Epidemiologist with experience in both acute care IP and public health. Thi became certified within the last five years so her fresh perspective is valuable. This duo ensures our members are equipped to sit for the CIC®, and that they have fun with their preparations. Click here or on the image below to visit the APIC Dallas/Fort Worth website.
