Special Accommodations

CBIC is committed to making sure that candidates with disabilities can take the initial certification examination with the accommodations they need. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, special testing accommodations will be considered for individuals with disabilities recognized by the ADA.

Accommodations

Typical accommodations include:

  • Providing a reader for the examination
  • Time extension
  • Reduction in distractions in the environment
  • Taking medications in the exam area

Process Overview

You must submit your request for special accommodations at the same time that you apply to take the initial certification examination. Before you begin the application process, download and complete the required two forms found at the bottom of this page. If you are filling out the online examination application, you will need to upload electronic copies of the documents on the appropriate screen. If you are submitting a paper application, you will need to include paper copies of the documents with your application. Please note that the Documentation of Disability form needs to be filled out by your diagnosing medical professional. Once your application is submitted with both the Documentation of Disability and Request for Special Accommodations forms and it is determined that you are eligible to take the initial certification examination, CBIC will inform you of your eligibility and the decision made regarding your Request for Special Accommodations. If your request is denied, you may appeal the decision by emailing info@cbic.org and the appeal will be looked at by the Test Committee Chairperson.

Required Forms

If you require any special accommodations, please contact CBIC at info@cbic.org before submitting your examination application, and the staff will be happy to assist you in meeting your testing needs.
